History of SONATRACH Scientific and Technical Days (JST)
The Scientific and Technical Days (JST) were launched in 1994, for the 30th anniversary of SONATRACH creation (December 31, 1963). The first edition provided an opportunity to bring together SONATRACH’s expertise for a collective reflection on the challenges and issues facing the hydrocarbon industry in Algeria, within a constantly evolving global context.
Initially intended for SONATRACH’s technicians and engineers, as well as its partners, the JST gradually expanded to include internationally renowned experts in the energy sector. Over the years, the JSTs have become a platform for collective reflection, bringing together the best expertise from SONATRACH to exchange, collaborate, and collectively shape the future of the energy industry.
The Scientific and Technical Days of SONATRACH are thus considered as an opportunity for showcasing expertise, sharing experiences, fostering innovation, and promoting a culture of performance.
Chronology of the JSTs
1994
The first edition of the Scientific and Technical Days took place in Algiers from April 18 to 20, 1994. The initiative aimed to "mobilize the vital resources of the energy world, take stock of the latest scientific and technical developments, and provide a framework that would allow SONATRACH to unite all its energies around a collective reflection on the hydrocarbon industry in Algeria and the challenges it faces in a changing and evolving environment."
1996
The second edition took place in Algiers from April 22 to 24, 1996, under the slogan: "SONATRACH Tomorrow." It provided an opportunity to assess the national expertise in engineering, research, and development, and to project into a vision that incorporates new elements at a time when international competition was becoming a tangible reality.
1998
The third edition took place from April 19 to 22, 1998, under the highly significant title: "Towards New Horizons." This third edition of the JSTs mainly focused on the technological factor and its role in the oil and gas industry.
2000
The fourth edition, held under the theme "Partnership, Strategic Option," took place in Algiers from April 16 to 19, 2000. It was marked by a strong participation of SONATRACH's international partners (150 foreign participants), along with the presence of 24 exhibitors and 23 oil and gas and para-petroleum companies who showcased their know-how and technological advancements.
2002
The 5th Scientific and Technical Days of SONATRACH (JST5) were held in Algiers from December 16 to 18, 2002, under the theme "Together for a Better Future." This edition was one of the three major events of the first edition of the Energy Week in Algeria (SEA).
2004
The 6th edition of the Scientific and Technical Days was held in Algiers from June 20 to 22, 2004, under the slogan: "Working for Sustainable Development." This edition coincided with the celebration of SONATRACH's 40th anniversary.
2006
The 7th edition took place in Oran from November 28 to 29, 2006, under the theme: "Reforms... Strategies, Opportunities, Innovations." It followed the 5th International Strategic Conference on Investment Opportunities (CSI5) and the 3rd International Oil and Gas Exhibition (Aloge3).
2008
The 8th JSTs took place in Algiers from November 18 to 19, 2008, as part of the fourth Energy Week in Algeria (SEA4), under the slogan: "The New World of Energy: Challenges but Also Opportunities." In addition to the 8th JST, the event included the 6th International Strategic Conference (CSI-6) focusing on the investment opportunities offered by Algeria in the energy sector, as well as the 4th International Oil and Gas Exhibition (ALOGE-4).
2013
On the occasion of SONATRACH's 50th anniversary and the Year of Energy in Algeria, the 9th edition of the JSTs was held from April 8 to 10, 2013, at the Oran Convention Center. In parallel with this event, an "ExpoScience 1" exhibition was organized, thus highlighting technologies related to the production and commercialization of petroleum products, particularly innovations, as well as scientific and academic research applied to the energy sector.
2015
The 10th edition of the JSTs and ExpoScience 2 took place in Oran from October 5 to 8, 2015, under the theme: "Technology, a Response to the Energy Challenges of Today and Tomorrow."
2018
The 11th edition of the JSTs and ExpoScience 3 took place in Oran from April 16 to 19, 2018, under the theme: "Innovation and Partnership in a Global Context of Energy Transition."
